The neutrons and fission products weigh less than the original nucleus and according to E=MC^2 the energy is in the kinetic energy of the neutrons and fission fragments. No mystery. Nuclear power is different but the mechanisms are similar. It's a controlled reaction vs. an uncontrolled reaction. The neutron population per generation is constant in one case and exponentially rising in the other. Enrichment also has a big impact on how much energy is released per unit time.

Galen Windsor pioneered the nuclear industry and explains that while plutonium and uranium will set off a geiger counter, there are no harmful effects to animals or humans. Yes, fuel can be reprocessed but it's not easy. Spent nuclear fuel is many thousands of rad on contact and glows blue when you pull it out of the reactor (I've actually done this and seen it with my own eyes) using a refueling machine with a long mast under 20+ feet of water. If you pulled the assembly to the surface, everyone in containment would be dead before they could make it to the hatch.
New nuclear fuel, by contrast, is essentially harmless, as Mr. Windsor says, and is inspected upon receipt by people looking at it visually at a distance of one foot. No appreciable radiation dose is received by the crew doing the inspection (I've also done this for real with my own eyes and hands many times). Can someone swim in the fuel pool without harm? Yes, we used to have divers come from time to time to work on the mechanisms in the water but they have to stay away from the spent fuel or they won't go home that night. I've moved fuel from one rack location to another using the spent fuel crane to facilitate these dives.
Fuel is reused (at least at Westinghouse plants) three times before it's put in the fuel pool/cask as spent fuel. I'd be interested to know how you think reprocessing fuel would be "destabilizing" for the energy industry. The "energy industry" isn't a monolithic thing. Reprocessing would hurt uranium miners but help reprocessors. Reprocessing is done is France (for example) and they don't seem to be "economically destabilized" in any way from having done so.

Economic destabilisation would occur through the proliferation of safe nuclear energy if setup with reprocessing plants. It would put an end to the coal and natural gas industries for a start. It only becomes economically destabilising when done at scale amongst many countries, that should be obvious.

Yes. Uranium oxide is milled and pressed into pellets about a half inch in diameter and an inch long. These pellets are loaded into long metal tubes which are pressurized with gas and welded shut. These tubes are arranged in a grid to make a fuel bundle, not unlike a box of straws only stainless steel and 15 feet long (or so).
Some of these bundles have control rods which are also long tubes made from a neutron absorbing material and these are held by a "spider" at the top that allows them to be withdrawn and inserted to stop the chain reaction.
The bundles are loaded into the reactor vessel and the reactor head is put on. The whole system is then pressurized to a high pressure (I'm specifically referring to Pressurized Water Reactors, there are other types). The control rods are withdrawn and the chain reaction starts (the reactor water also has neutron absorbing material in some cases). The neutron level is controlled by both rod position and the temperature of the system.
The chain reaction is caused by neutrons being absorbed by fuel atoms. These atoms then split (fission) which releases heat, fission products (other, smaller atoms) and some number of neutrons. These neutrons then either escape from the core, or go on to cause fission in another fuel atom.
That's a lot of words but encompasses about six months of nuclear power school. There are a lot of great videos on YouTube that will explain it with pictures and videos better than I can here. I'd suggest "Smarter Every Day" video about Refueling a Nuclear Reactor. I actually know most of the people who were in the video which is shot at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant at the utility I used to work at.

HAARP is not a death ray. And emits HF not microwaves. There are other installations with higher frequencies but they all could make sense as 3D radar sources not for death rays. One application is to cretae beat frequencies at lower frequencies but not higher. I've bought the book, though the author seems convinced the nuclear atom exists. There is no evidence for this. I suggest people look at Bohr's 1913 paper and ask themselves how he came up with his model, which, of course, is now considered nonsense. Count how many unproven assumptions he makes in the paper. Nevertheless, it is essentially the same model that underlies the theory of fission and fusion bombs. People do not realise all of these things are based on advanced mathematics, not experimentation and proof. You cannot see atoms. This website started off well but has truly gone off the deep end.
Lise Meitner and Otto Han discovered the fission of the U235 nucleus in 1938. The neutrons and fission products weigh less than the original nucleus and according to E=MC^2 the energy is in the kinetic energy of the neutrons and fission fragments. No mystery. There is a lot of energy released and when fast moving things collide with other things heat is generated. Hot objects radiate electromagnetic radiation, everything from infrared, through visible light to X rays and gamma rays.
As for the neutrons not intercepting enough nuclei, there are a LOT of fissionable nuclei in the way and the compression in the gun or implosion type weapon makes it more so which results in the chain reaction.

Yes, they do. Trident subs carry multiple missiles with multiple warheads that would make Hiroshima look like an M-80. There are still silos and big ol' bombers as well and whatever the other countries have.
Nuclear power is different but the mechanisms are similar. It's a controlled reaction vs. an uncontrolled reaction. The neutron population per generation is constant in one case and exponentially rising in the other. Enrichment also has a big impact on how much energy is released per unit time.
I wish the world was a different place and there were no nuke weapons but that's not the world we live in no matter how much some guy wants to deny it.

It has nothing to do with the existence of the nuclear atom. There is a fission process but it has nothing to do with "atoms". It occurs naturally and is not understand by the scientists. The nuclear atom is fantasy. This is why modern particle physics is a joke.

Galen Windsor pioneered the nuclear industry and explains that while plutonium and uranium will set off a geiger counter, there are no harmful effects to animals or humans. Galen eats some uranium and describes how he used to swim daily in the warm cooling pools. Also, used fuel rods are easily re-processed and can be re-used over and over, they are never waste. Yes, fuel can be reprocessed but it's not easy. Spent nuclear fuel is many thousands of rad on contact and glows blue when you pull it out of the reactor (I've actually done this and seen it with my own eyes) using a refueling machine with a long mast under 20+ feet of water. If you pulled the assembly to the surface, everyone in containment would be dead before they could make it to the hatch.
New nuclear fuel, by contrast, is essentially harmless, as Mr. Windsor says, and is inspected upon receipt by people looking at it visually at a distance of one foot. No appreciable radiation dose is received by the crew doing the inspection (I've also done this for real with my own eyes and hands many times). Can someone swim in the fuel pool without harm? Yes, we used to have divers come from time to time to work on the mechanisms in the water but they have to stay away from the spent fuel or they won't go home that night. I've moved fuel from one rack location to another using the spent fuel crane to facilitate these dives.
Fuel is reused (at least at Westinghouse plants) three times before it's put in the fuel pool/cask as spent fuel. I'd be interested to know how you think reprocessing fuel would be "destabilizing" for the energy industry. The "energy industry" isn't a monolithic thing. Reprocessing would hurt uranium miners but help reprocessors. Reprocessing is done is France (for example) and they don't seem to be "economically destabilized" in any way from having done so.
I'm not trying to insult you but you honestly have almost no idea what you're talking about. I've been in the industry my entire adult life (almost 40 years now) and while that doesn't make me an expert in every facet of the "energy industry" it does give me an actual basis for my claims instead of a forty year old video by a fringe guy with shaky credibility.

Can you provide any proof that used fuel rods are harmful to life, experiments, etc? Pioneers in the industry such as Galen Windsor had to learn the hard way, there were no safety policies in place during the early days of the nuclear industry, and yet no deaths from deadly radio-activity. Considering he pioneered the setup and operation of nuclear facilities, it would be a grave injustice to label him 'a fringe guy with shaky credibility'.
Economic destabilisation would occur through the proliferation of safe nuclear energy if setup with reprocessing plants. It would put an end to the coal and natural gas industries for a start. It only becomes economically destabilising when done at scale amongst many countries, that should be obvious.
You are not an expert and neither am I, however I always look for evidence from people who have nothing to gain other than trying to make this world a better place. I would love to see any evidence of animal life dying from exposure to spent nuclear fuel rods. Not just hearsay or industry warnings, but real evidence from people who have seen it with their own eyes, have you?
In simple terms. will you tell us how a fuel rod is manufactured and how it is charged up so that it can give off enough heat to boil water?
Yes. Uranium oxide is milled and pressed into pellets about a half inch in diameter and an inch long. These pellets are loaded into long metal tubes which are pressurized with gas and welded shut. These tubes are arranged in a grid to make a fuel bundle, not unlike a box of straws only stainless steel and 15 feet long (or so).
Some of these bundles have control rods which are also long tubes made from a neutron absorbing material and these are held by a "spider" at the top that allows them to be withdrawn and inserted to stop the chain reaction.
The bundles are loaded into the reactor vessel and the reactor head is put on. The whole system is then pressurized to a high pressure (I'm specifically referring to Pressurized Water Reactors, there are other types). The control rods are withdrawn and the chain reaction starts (the reactor water also has neutron absorbing material in some cases). The neutron level is controlled by both rod position and the temperature of the system.
The chain reaction is caused by neutrons being absorbed by fuel atoms. These atoms then split (fission) which releases heat, fission products (other, smaller atoms) and some number of neutrons. These neutrons then either escape from the core, or go on to cause fission in another fuel atom.
That's a lot of words but encompasses about six months of nuclear power school. There are a lot of great videos on YouTube that will explain it with pictures and videos better than I can here. I'd suggest "Smarter Every Day" video about Refueling a Nuclear Reactor. I actually know most of the people who were in the video which is shot at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant at the utility I used to work at.

HAARP is not a death ray. And emits HF not microwaves. There are other installations with higher frequencies but they all could make sense as 3D radar sources not for death rays. One application is to cretae beat frequencies at lower frequencies but not higher. HAARP may be used to influence the polar currents so they may modulate it with low frequencies to send Ultralow frequency radio messages to subs in submersed condition. I've bought the book, though the author seems convinced the nuclear atom exists. There is no evidence for this. I suggest people look at Bohr's 1913 paper and ask themselves how he came up with his model, which, of course, is now considered nonsense. Count how many unproven assumptions he makes in the paper. Nevertheless, it is essentially the same model that underlies the theory of fission and fusion bombs. People do not realise all of these things are based on advanced mathematics, not experimentation and proof. You cannot see atoms. They are mental constructs that have failed to deliver anything useful to humanity—it's time to get back to the basics.
