I haven't read this book but I do know that in Australia, most dairy cows are pasture fed with a supplement of grain and, of course, hay and silage when required when the grass dries off in summer. The dairy industry is totally reliant on very healthy cows in order to produce quality milk. Sick cows cannot milk and when I see a statement declaring that farmers had to lift unhealthy cows in order to milk them, I know that this is a total fabrication. I can't speak for feed lots and factory farms where the cows are kept in barns, but these are uncommon in Australia.

I live in a tiny, Rocky Mountains town with a lot of Amish and Mennonite families. They are too afraid to offer raw milk even to individuals. I would love to have a milk cow but logistically it’s cumbersome and it’s expensive for a lot of reasons mainly because everything is expensive in the mountains.
Maybe one day sooner than later some group of people will destroy the electrical grids and take us back to simpler times…
