Hydrocarbons are primarily produced naturally within the Earth - percolating up toward the surface and getting trapped in pockets - they are not primarily a product from dead plants and/or dinosaurs.
NASA has even discovered hydrocarbon production on a moon in our solar system.

I don't understand how people don't get that we can't assess anything - until most all the toxins are removed from our soil, or ocean, our air, our food, etc. The big polluting industries love people blaming changes in our ecosystem on .04% of the atmosphere. I used to believe the narrative when Al Gore's movie came out. But I did except that I didn't fully understand the science behind it, and I always thought that toxicity was a huge confounding factor. The warmest part of the current interglacial was between six and nine thousand years ago - not now! - and in a few thousand years we will be living with descending temps till we are plunged into the next glacial max.
