The massive advances in industry, agriculture and military defense did not occur until Stalin led the USSR. This includes the Soviet victory in the "Great Patriotic War" over Nazism. Grover Furr has actually investigated these claims. If we can question the reality of the atomic bomb, why can't we question this? "Everybody knows it; it's self evident." If that's not propaganda, it has all the hallmarks of it. "Trust the science", "everybody knows that vaccines are save and effective, "you don't want to be labeled a Covidiot..."

Furr does not deny that Stalin ordered the execution of Old Bolsheviks in the 30's, he just claims that the accusations against them were true and they basically deserved execution.

It does follow as the claims about Stalin are all based on claims of the state (e.g. the US) or those in the service of state policies - that is, an appeal to authority. Which by now should be discredited. Just as "trust the science" should be discredited.
It is not "appeals to authority" (indeed a logical fallacy) but rather many witnesses to Stalinism who have written and testified to what occurred.

Haymarket was a sister organization to the now defunct ISO. The ISO claimed the Leninist mantle as a disciplined revolutionary organization yet was brought down by no more than an accusation (no criminal charges were ever made) of sexual misconduct. (Pretty easy to take down a this "revolutionary" organization! The capitalists had nothing to worry about! But then, that's the nature of a fake revolutionary organization.) The ISO had fully embraced Identity Politics which Christian Parenti correctly calls a "ruling class ideology." Tell me, what revolutions have the Trotskyists led? None. In fact, they are the most vicious critics of actually existing socialism.
The ISO wasn't around during Covid, but another "more revolutionary" Trotskyist outlet was - the WSWS. The WSWS became the rabid mouthpiece for even harsher Covid policies than the government itself. To me, this Trotskyist organization is clearly a CIA front. But this kind of government collaboration is not new for Trotsky and Trotskyists.

Michael Parenti described socialism in the USSR as "siege socialism." That is, they were under constant threat from internal and external enemies. Stalin and the Bolshevik Party turned a backward agrarian country into a military and industrial powerhouse that defeated - at great cost - the most advanced military the world had yet since in their defeat of the Nazis. They turned a country that was mostly illiterate into one where illiteracy no longer existed, there was no unemployment, no homeless all in the span of several decades. An accomplishment no other country has come close to except China. Yet, they are more evil than those that are harming us every single day?
No, I am saying that Stalin murdered his factional enemies via show trials which featured forced confessions after which most were murdered anyway along with their families. And those liquidated included many of those who fought the Whites in the civil war in defense of the Soviet State and is one reason why the USSR was so decimated by the Nazis since many of the more experienced of the Bolshevik military leaders were executed by Stalin Including Trotsky who led the Red Army. Defaming Trotsky and the Left Opposition to Stalinism has become something of a cottage industry of late.

I agree with you concerning China. They do have a notion of central planning and have large nationalized banks which are not dependent on short term profitability as are private banks in the US which is animated by financialized profit taking rather than producing real material value.

The massive advances in industry, agriculture and military defense did not occur until Stalin led the USSR. This includes the Soviet victory in the "Great Patriotic War" over Nazism. Neither prior to or after Stalin's leadership did the USSR make such dramatic advances. Yet we are to conclude that these were "deformations"? Does the choice of that word have anything to do with Trotsky's "deformed workers' state" concept? I have read Trotsky's "The Revolution Betrayed." Trotsky wasn't even in the USSR when these historic advances took place. Only according to Trotsky was Trotsky a military genius. It is far more likely that without Stalin's leadership we'd all be speaking German.

Even if some magic happened and that Big Daddy government did not become corrupt, it's still the worst form of government. Why? Because a bunch of career bureaucrats living thousands of miles distant from a local area will never make better decisions about what should and should not happen in that local area than the people who live there. Empire is the worst form of government, whether it's communist, socialist, fascist, or so called democratic. Local government is best.

totally agree. The bloated federal government in Washington, all the 3 and 4 letter bureaucracies to whom we have given power and who are controlled by the billionaire class--yes, they are to blame. But it hasn't all happened since covid. It's been going on and growing for decades. FDA has been corrupt at least since the 1960's. They work for Pharma, not for you and me. The other federal bureaucracies are either corrupt or incompetent or both. We need to shut them all down and return the power they wield back to the state and local governments or to the people.

But who bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima? Who started the Cold War (the USSR was an ally remember)? Who imposed Neoliberal policies on us creating wage stagnation and declining standard of living (since the 1970's onward)? I'll skip over some that may be controversial, but who destroyed Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Syria? Who imposed Covid on us, the lockdowns that transferred $trillions from average Americans to the oligarchs, shuttered 30% of small businesses, forced upon us the toxic Covid "vaccines." There's a lot I leave out, but in every case here, it is our own ruling class. Yet, we are to fear the communists most, people that have never attacked us. A group we know next to nothing about (save our own ruling class' propaganda). While our own government attacks us in myriad ways continuously and in many cases we are fully aware of it - and do nothing.
Communism is "you will own nothing and will be happy (WEF). It is a destructive ideology. Russians are not communists (I am Russian) The revolution was not their idea. Some other people (or perhaps they were not humans) did it to us.
The WEF is the face of global CAPITALISM (just go look at the long list corporations that are members). So, it is quite a stretch to say that a WEF slogan (and goal) is the expression of communism. Look, if you notice, I am not talking about communism. I am talking about what our own governments are and have been doing to us. We should be more concerned with that. Not about what is effectively a vague boogeyman and distraction.
