We totally get your take on this. Based on the research we had done at the time, there was evidence showing chemo works synergistically with many of the elements we integrated. Chemo is obviously very toxic and far from ideal but at the time it was a risk we weighed and considering prognosis that is why we chose both. If faced with a reoccurrence we would definitely consider eliminating further chemo treatments.
Some would say that there is no "proof" that any of it works. We completely understand the decision on whether to implement chemo is a very personal one. Of course we are not a fan of chemo but there is certainly some evidence suggesting they do work in synergy. With the limited time and resources we had to dig into it, we chose to do both. This is just one we reference: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6769799/
I completely agree with you. The saying goes that anyone who survives chemotherapy would have survived cancer as well. Not to mention that later, precisely because of the toxic therapy, resistant cancer cells that are resistant to chemo can form later. It's no coincidence that doctors don't allow themselves chemotherapy or radiotherapy, but they force them on patients with impunity because they get paid for it.
We hear what you are saying. One thing we can never measure is what we've prevented. We will never know what would have happened if Ben refused chemo and/or surgery. What we do know is that Ben is still here living a very fulfilling life and we are very grateful for that. Our wish is that one day we will have proven non-invasive cures for cancer. 💜
I so appreciate your patience and kindness in the face of all the armchair quarterbacking. We all do the best we can with the information that we have at the time.
Came to the comments to see if anyone thought that way too. I'll never do chemo nor radiation ever. I've watched people on that and that's NOT living. Constantly maneuvering around supplements, medicines, etc isn't either. I already read all labels and my whole day is what can I eat without it breaking me out and messing with my ibs-c. Anymore and I'd lose my mind. Earth is not our home anyway.
I was thinking that as well, but maybe the chemo worked BECAUSE of the supplemental change in food and natural remedies. It appears to me it was the surgery he should have walked away from, the results of which, he is now suffering from.
I think I would have stopped going to the oncologist at all. When you see that it is getting better, why go back to the people who gave you a death sentence
I think many of us are still programmed 'to see the doctor'. As a kid, it was poured in us.
I confess I sometimes fall in the trap myself still, but usually, after getting a bit better I realize what is going on and stop the meds and start living again on my own, avoiding all medical people apart from a couple nurses and of course, some online doctors here on the Stack, who give decent advice.
Agree. My dad had supposed stage 4 lymphoma in 1978 (age 40). He got the SOP "treatment" of chemo. The chemo made him deathly sick. The chemo didn't cure his cancer, his PET scans still showed stage 4 lymphoma. The oncologist told him to get PET scans every 6 months and possibly more chemo.
My dad walked away from the PET scans and chemo.
He lived another 15 years with stage 4 lymphoma and no treatment. He was healthy, worked as a truck driver and ate what he wanted.
In 1993, he went to the doctor for a sinus infection. The doctor told him it was cancer (no biopsy done). He had been living with stage 4 lymphoma for 15 years, He started on the SOP of chemo and now radiation. In one year he was dead (age 56). The radiation had burned his mouth and throat, the chemo had destroyed his stomach. He could no longer swallow, eat or drink. He died of starvation at home.
Terrible. There is no noninvasive treatment or cure for cancer. You live with it and then you die.
This is a wonderful post. Thanks so much. I believe you mean Dr. Thomas Seyfried, author of Cancer as a Metabolic Disease, and not “Simon Siefrid.” I mention this in case someone else wants to read or listen to his incredible work with cancer patients.
I also subscribed to Karen and Ben’s newsletter. Can’t wait to hear more about their adventures.
Just reading a book about Swiss Dr. homeopath Elmiger, who shares some of these wondrous stories. These pages have to be spread far and wide! Too many people believe the allopathic doctors who ruin their health and seldom bring healing at all. Thank you for sharing the story.
Riveting story. I, too, cringed with every reference to chemo and surgery. Except for emergency treatment for an accident, in which they can perform miraculous outcomes, they are failed, archaic, outmoded protocols that should be relegated to the dust bin of allopathic medicine.
I would like to bring attention to a couple of powerful protocols to add. The use of sunlight and chlorine dioxide. Both are extremely valuable arrows in the quiver healing disease and attuning the immune system. This is an exploration of the brilliant research scientists, Andreas Kalcker and Dr. Jack Kruse. Two of these articles are showcased right here on Unbekoming.

Ben and Karen, I wanted to add and say, blessings for your healing. You made the best decision you could at the time. No one really knows what the outcome would be had chemo and surgery been eliminated. You worked as a team, saved your precious life under huge odds, so the outcome fared quite well.
Just try it, you'll prove it to yourself. I have watched what has happened to people who have done so and it has never been positive, the ONLY saving grace is that our bodies are beyond intelligent and this would be the reason in my mind that Ben's body did not succumb to greater sickness and death upon receiving this assault. Our bodies are probably THE MOST intelligent matter in existence, yet we have been taught the opposite. Get to know the body and it's intelligence, tune out of this world of "other humans bullshit" and tune into the innate inherent intelligence of yourself. Period. Chemo is chemical death period. If one does not succumb thanks be to the intelligence that made and is the body. ❤️
Thank you for those added comments. Yes, it was very easy to get overwhelmed with so many opinions and choices. So we did what we could and made our decisions based on the time, resources, information and to some extent, intuition, we had at the time. 💜
Great & wonderful info..a must for others to look into..so on target..neither sources are prostitutes selling crap..yes Kruse has a ego, but he was a neurosurgeon & is tired of the yrs of lies
Thank you for responding! Something the shot seems to do is to take an existing health issue and make it much worse. I am so very happy that all is well now! In my unwarranted opinion, but concern for humanity, I think you should report what happened to VAERS.
Love this story of personal agency helping to overcome what most think is impossible. The entire paradigm of dis-ease needs to be rewritten and by those who take a novel approach and have great success. There are so many of us now.
The easy path is broad and many take it, but the hard path is narrow and few travel it, but those that do triumph. I wish more people would take the alternative approach and live and thrive.
God bless Karen and Ben for being brave, open-minded, and curious.
Hi there. I sent you a not via your website about mistletoe therapy. Have you heard of it? It's a great addition to what Ben is already doing. Check out BelieveBig.Org and The Mistletoe Book and my doctor Dr. Mark Hancock at Humanizing Medicine in Decatur, GA. Lots of success stories coming out od his office. I personally used mistletoe to shrink and kill a breast tumor in 2018. I did what's known as the trifecta of mistletoe IV, subcutaneous shots and direct tumor injections. It's known as fever therapy and helps ramp up your immune system to recognize the tumor and send NK and dendritic cells to kill it. It saved my breast and likely my life.
YES! We would love to take advantage of mistletoe therapy. In fact, we make reference to it in our book. However, as we are in Eastern Canada it is not available here. We would have to travel and unfortunately do not have the resources to do that at this time. We've also read a lot about the benefit of fevers to attack cancer. Very fascinating. Thats wonderful it has worked for you. We wish you continued good health! 💜
That's not true. You have practitioners in your area doing mistletoe therapy & or you can purchase it yourself locally or order online and do the treatments yourself.
This is correct. After I received my prescription via my doctor in Georgia, I know buy my mistletoe directly from the Abnoba lab in Europe. They ship direct my house and it's reasonably priced compared to if you were getting it from a fancy naturopath doctor in the states.
BelieveBig.Org has a list of doctors who work with mistletoe in each country and state check that out. Or call my doctors office for more info. They are also a anthrophsopic medicine clinic and my doctor is both and MD and anthrophsopic medical doctor who studied in Germany. Hrs one of the authors of The Mistletoe book and he has a wealth of knowledge. His staff can be helpful.
The health and harmony of our soul, our mind and our body are 100% our responsibility and should never be any other individuals responsibility. If we go to 'others' we are depriving ourselves of learning who and what we are. We will never achieve personal harmony or full awareness of our existence and being, therefore have very limited power. "Physician heal thyself".
According to anthrophsopic medicine mistletoe's healing qualities works on the soul level. It's used for people with PTSD. It's common for the first dose to create lucid dreaming which can be helpful I'm clearing stuck emotions.
My first experience with it caused lucid dreaming that had my limbs turning into branches of a tree and then a working through a old childhood trauma.
Then the second dose caused a mild fever 101 for about 8 hours. By the 3rd dose the fever was higher 102 with the 4th dose rendering a 104 fever and subsequent doses created fevers but they became progressively lower...103, 102, 102, 101.
One day a week (Monday) I would drive myself 2 1/2 hours to Decatur, GA and I would receive the mistletoe trifecta in the AM. Then I would drive home 2 1/2 hours (arriving home by 4pm) and by the evening I would start to feel feverish (each week the time between treatment and fever onset would grow shorter) and I would get under the covers and nuture the fever to do it's magic.
I would then stay in bed until 5pm the next day. I would sleep from Monday at 7pm to Tuesday at 5pm. The fever was manageable. No meds just let it go. Cold compress on neck and head. Water when stirring. By Wednesday I was back to myself and by the weekend I was hiking the beautiful forrests of Northwestern NC. Pisgah, Nantahala.. the land of the waterfalls.
This process started in June 2018 and lasted until August 2018. I spent the entire summer immersed in nature. Waterfalls, fresh water swims and hugging trees. I took a sabbatical from working to heal.
I know mistletoe helped my immune system to recognize the tumor and therefore sent NK cells to do their work. The fevers made my body inhospitable for cancer cells. Fasting while having the fevers was helpful. But I do believe that my time in nature had an important impact in my healing.
Then in September 2018 I had a laser lumpectomy and the tumor was found to be dead.
Prior to mistletoe therapy the tumor was far too big to consider a lumpectomy. I was told I would have to lose the whole breast. I believed, based on other stories that I could shrink it with mistletoe so that I could save the breast. I also believed I could render it inactive or dead. And that is exactly what happened.
Additionally and worth noting...I practiced future self Journaling that summer. Where I wrote the outcome I wanted as if it already happened. Then I would visualize that outcome while meditating with so much emotion that I felt, in my body, as if it had already happened. And I did this many times during that summer while doing mistletoe. My belief was strong and since the body doesn't know the difference between real and imagined reality it created the conditions to match my imagined reality. This is a concept that is taught by Dr. Joe Dispenza in his books Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself and in Becoming Superhuman.
Even my doctor, who was aware of my future self Journaling practice noted how similar my journal entry was to the pathology report in describing what the removed tumor make up would be like. My doctor did confirm that it had similar pathology to the first tumor which was removed via a conventional lumpectomy backing 2016.
I share details because it's helpful to have context and also I believe we all can heal given the right mindset and conditions. ✨️
We are so powerful we just need to lean into that and remember it. 🙏 ✨️
I had cancer. Stage 3B. I did surgery under pressure. Worked with natural health people. Did a tonne of research. Refused chemo and radiation. Got yelled at for refusing. Looking back, I wish I never had surgery, as the side effects of that make life difficult daily. Surgery was Oct 2018.
Yes the side effects are not pleasant and always a struggle. We often wonder what would have happened if surgery was refused. Having said that, we are very grateful Ben is still here defying the odds. All the best to you. 💜
Thank you for sharing Ben and Karen’s story of hope! I now have their ebook and will dive in for more. My husband, who has lung cancer, has been combining a repurposed drug protocol with conventional treatment. Despite all of our efforts, his cancer has progressed from stage 1 to stage 3, but so far he has avoided stage 4. He’s now also working with a functional medicine doctor who is addressing root causes. A big one appears to be toxicity (heavy metals, gasoline, plastics), so detoxing is key for him. I look forward to reading this ebook to see what else we can do.
Check out Dr William Makis & his protocol ( like tippens protocol plus more). he is only on substack, a good legit doc (that the Canadian govt is lying about). Everyone's protocol is individualize. Many people on line are pretending to be him.
Thanks, M K. My husband’s repurposed drugs/anti-cancer supplements protocol is actually through Dr. Makis. He started that protocol in September 2024 and did everything the good doctor recommended—except for the keto diet and fasting for multiple days at a time. We met with Dr. Makis on Zoom three times and also communicated via email. Unfortunately, my husband’s cancer progressed while on this protocol. However, it works fabulously for the vast majority of people who follow it. The functional medicine doctor my husband sees now is addressing root causes and has added to that protocol. And now my husband has also received infusions of vitamin C, minerals, glutathione, and is undergoing detox infusions with CaEDTA or NaEDTA. Not all at once, but in a staged fashion.
I think we need to do better with his diet. His taste buds haven’t come back after two rounds of chemotherapy, and he’s become quite thin. I’ve started reading The Rooted Misfits’ book and have purchased two books they recommend: How to Starve Cancer as well as Radical Remission. We will figure this out.
I continue to have much respect for Dr. Makis and am a paid subscriber. He’s been so poorly treated by the Canadian government. It’s shocking.
Regarding diet, thanks to his taste buds, he can now usually eat something even if it has no flavor. Most food used to taste so bad he couldn’t get much of it down. He’s currently stuck at being 25 lbs underweight, but we’re aiming to shift that. Thank goodness for OWYN protein drinks.
He’s been receiving vitamin C infusions, but I don’t know at what dose. We’ll ask. He’s due for another one. We’ll definitely look into mistletoe. Thanks for the suggestion!
Oh my, please read the ingredients in Owyn. Horrible vegetable oils. No ensure or other comparables. Guar gum can cause gut microbiome probs. The vits are synthetic. Most of these protein drinks (owned by pharma cos) are not safe for us, let alone a cancer pt. I totally understand that you want to put weight on him. This isn't the way to do it. The quality of what you eat is so important, not the calorie count. Wholesome organic home made food put into a blender is best. If you can't do that, consider Mikuna Cho Cho powder or truvani powder. If money is not a concern, then there's Function Formulas Liquid Hope..
I just had a conversation with Grok AI about Joseph Mercola, DO, and his views on seed oils. He’s clearly finds the flax seed, sunflower, and safflower oils to be toxic. He doesn’t recommend flax seeds at all for consumption (so no ground flax seeds either). However, he finds hemp seeds to be nutrient dense and to have a good balance of fats. He thinks they’re fine, for example, blended in smoothies. He suggests using hemp seed oil sparingly and to keep it refrigerated.
Thank you for this information! We’ve been so focused on avoiding sugar (which is why he doesn’t use Ensure products), but unaware that the flax seed, sunflower, and safflower oils are horrible. What about hemp seeds as a protein source? I’d been making my own nutrient-dense smoothies for years and using hemp seeds, though I stopped a while back. I planned to start making them again but for both of us. Also, would ground flax seed in smoothies also be a no-no? We definitely need protein in our smoothies to avoid glucose spikes.
I’ve been drinking one OWYN drink a day (32 grams of protein), and that’s enabled me to regain 8 pounds, as I’d become too thin on a mild keto diet. I’ll need to rethink that, too.
I’ll check out those products you’ve recommended. Again, thank you!
And all the best to you both as you continue to do your best to out smart cancer. Its like a huge overwhelming puzzle but you've got a great resource in Dr. Makis.... 💜
Thank you! I like how you use “outsmart” cancer instead of “fight” cancer. And yes, it is like a huge overwhelming puzzle. All the pieces need to be present and in the right spot.
Yes, we replaced the word "fight" with "outsmart" very early on in our journey. Thank you for noticing this very important change in thinking. We see our life with cancer as a relationship of sorts. Kind of like a "frienemy" (friend + enemy 😅) where we attempt to play nice while watching every move it makes and strategically counteract that move ... like a chess game. We say a few words about the impact of this change of thought process in our book! 💜
Yes, We've been following him here and read his peer reviewed study. We almost got duped into a facebook page then heard him on a podcast saying he wasnt on facebook. They are definitely giving him a hard time here in Canada.
We are sorry to hear about your husband. Yes, toxicities in the environment can definitely have an impact. There is a section in our book where we discuss this. Thank you for your support and all the best in your own journey. You appear to be doing all the right things. 💜
Thank you, Rooted Misfits! You are an inspiration for us all. I’ll start reading your ebook shortly and just might go to that section on toxicity first.
I'm so happy for you and thank you for sharing your story. My mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic seven years ago. She was so frail already but the oncologist insisted that chemo was the right move. After one chemo treatment she ended up in the hospital and died three days later. (they also put her under and did surgery to remove her bile duct obstruction the night before moving her into Hospice) All the oncologist had to say was "well that didn't go as planned". The whole thing was so senseless and brutal that I can barely believe that it's true as I'm typing this. I wish I had known then what I know now.
Here is an informative interview with a Dr at the forefront of cancer as a metabolic disease. Also, it seems that this is now becoming more accepted in mainstream medicine as a quick search will show .
Yes, Dr. Seyfried is one of our favorites. And you are right, there is more and more respectful attention being paid to the metabolic theory. Hopefully this means we are close to a breakthrough to where our research dollars are being directed instead of to the next novel expensive drug. If you like Dr. Seyfried, I would invite you to take a look at Mark Lintern's cell suppression theory. You'll also find him on various podcasts and interviews. Here is his website where he provides a synopsis on his theory which is closely related to Seyfried's. He also has a somewhat easy to read book. This guy is somewhat new on the block but is gaining traction: https://www.cellsuppression.com
Anyone pushing chemo is a complete and utter idiot today. It's absolute assault and murder. Do not push this on anyone. I am not thrilled that Ben and Karen are doing so at all. I am quite angry about it. Why promote these people who promote assault and traumatizing murder!?
As we have always said, whether or not to choose chemo is a very personal decision. Never have we promoted it. We understand and considered both sides of the debate and made our decision for us. Since you attribute Ben's survival to God, we presume you are a Christian. To call anyone an utter idiot who has a different opinion than you is not very Christian like.
Everything in life is a very personal decision. Taking meth is a very personal decision but I will still make the effort to oppose anyone who is personally deciding to take it, more so loved ones, though I love life and that includes human beings. I wouldn't allow my dog to eat the cyanide and will stand in her way BECAUSE I love.
Assuming I am Christian makes you assumptive. I am not Christian.
Would you prefer the word 'fool' rather than idiot? As for God, would you prefer 'Creator'?
I am a good & loving being. You may not like my point of view, but it is what it is.
Perhaps you could take a lesson in constructive criticism. Being so judgemental can't be good for your psyche. This will be our last response to your comments as we only engage in respectful debate.
This is your inner problem, not mine. I have offered loving advice to someone who shared a troubling experience and you cut me off while calling me judgmental. I think judging is important and necessary. I have first hand experience repeatedly of watching loved ones die a traumatic and painful lingering death of starvation due to chemotherapy. I would never ever recommend it and your response is to cut me off and call me judgemental. This is your problem not mine.
Had he not taken chemo, I think the results would have been even better.
Chemo has a single digit percent success rate and that's not counting how many died from it as they generally get called cancer deaths.
No. There's no proof the two protocols work together.
This is oncologists trying to preserve their profits.
I've witnessed chemo kill and never heal. I wouldn't take it EVER. I will tell anyone NEVER take chemo. It's murder.
I'm glad you're recovering, I wish you continued good health.
I completely agree with you. The saying goes that anyone who survives chemotherapy would have survived cancer as well. There are on toxic non invasive cures. Chemo is not one, radiation is not one. There are absolutely treatments that are not destructive and murderous.
I so appreciate your patience and kindness in the face of all the armchair quarterbacking. We all do the best we can with the information that we have at the time.
Amen! 💜
Indeed, fenbendazole and Artemisinin can effectively kill cancer cells.
I highly recommend the CDS protocol (https://karikor.substack.com)
CDS is a concentrated aqueous solution of 0.3% (3000 ppm) chlorine dioxide gas, which does not contain sodium chlorite (NaClO2) and has a neutral pH.
I also take vitamin B complex, vitamin D3, Omega3, Curcurmin Melatonin and I love green tea. I always have Nigella sativa oil at home.
I also take selenium in the morning and zinc in the evening. I also stuff my family with these.
I hate big pharma executioners, they have caused me a lot of damage.
Thank you. We will check out the CDS protocol. All the best to you... 💜

I surely can't argue with that bit of common sense. Totally agree
You make a very valid point.

Yup.

I have been following him for over 12 years. He is quite simply amazing and has a great personality. I wish Ben the best of health, you too of course.
He really is amazing! And thank you! Sending you well wishes too 💜

That's my conjecture, too, but no one knows for sure, because it's speculation.

It's known as fever therapy and helps ramp up your immune system to recognize the tumor and send NK and dendritic cells to kill it. It saved my breast and likely my life.
Blessings for continued healing.
Great information Elle, thank you 🙏 best your way 🥰
Thank you. 💜
Thanks for that. We will pull together a list of where we can get it. Im surprised our ND didnt mention it in 2022.
Ben was fortunate to survive the deadly allopathic cut, burn & poison protocol. He was saved by his wife, not his MD or oncologist.
And his creator!
Here here!
Amen!
You can thank the creator of Ben's body for that. But instead you speculate that this barbaric treatment has worked. You couldn't be more wrong.
All the best to you on your own health journey...
Diet is key. Also, high dose Vit c IVs can help.. sometimes cancer can progress then finally go down. Mistletoe IVs are helpful for others.
Often for cancer pts, the dose for high dose Vit c IVs is 50 gms.
Thank you for this fabulous piece. I love people who read, have an open mind and possess determination. What a remarkable couple.
Thank you for your supportive comment! 💜
Great piece , fascinating & remarkable couple , God bless them !
Excellent article.

Alex Jones also tested positive as a CIA spook:).
Hi Mary, Sending prayers and wellbeing to you and your loved ones.

Thank you!
