They may involve a certain dis-ease, but they are a remedy not a cause. I'm primarily concerned with people who cry "but you must protect my immune compromised child". (The previous statement may not be correlated with the preceding question.) I'm noting the use of masks and their questionable efficacy in either preventing infection or preventing spread of illness. Yet even friends who don't believe masks are helpful will excuse mask use on people who are ill.
