The statement made in the post, that "A. Watad and A. Soriano emphasize that vaccines prevent millions of infections, which are more likely to trigger autoimmunity than vaccines." for example seems to be unfounded. A keyword search of the book finds exactly ZERO cases of the phrase "vaccines prevent" much less "vaccines prevent infections" or vaccines prevent millions of infections."
There is the unsubstantiated claim that "Vaccines are the most effective and sustainable means of preventing infectious diseases (Rappuoli et al., 2002)." But take care, it is possible to have an infection without a disease. There are similar claims that are simply unfounded, for example, the claim that: "The best preventive measure that we currently have (for influenza) is a vaccine." - is made without any reference to much less scientific study of other preventatives.
"Vaccination is an attractive method by which to prevent such infections, including influenza, invasive pneumococcal diseases, herpes zoster, and human papillomavirus (HPV) (van Assen et al., 2011a)." -- attractive method? Whatever that means... The data clearly shows, for example, that vaccines are ineffective in preventing influenza infections.
re: the HPV vaccine, the claim is made that "The quadrivalent vaccine is highly effective in preventing infections by subtypes 16 and 18 (the most oncogenic subtypes) and 6 and 11 (responsible for genital warts)." - interesting that the promoted purpose of HPV is not to prevent infections, but to prevent cancers resulting from infections.
"Meningococcal vaccine is indicated to prevent invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis,

Another chapter advises "Vaccination is by far the safest and most effective strategy for preventing serious infections (in RA patients)." Not "preventing infections", preventing "serious infections." This is an important distinction, often overlooked.
There are also completely nonsensical claims about prevention, like "Today, the potential applications of vaccines extend far beyond prevention of infectious diseases, and vaccination is considered to be a most promising weapon against a variety of different conditions." - seriously? What are they talking about? Vaccines preventing broken arms? Malnutrition? Poisoning?
The CONCLUSION of a chapter on "Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura: Between Infections and Vaccinations" begins with: "Vaccinations have proved to be of great advantage to the general population in preventing the spread of infectious diseases." but this was never analyzed in the data.
We can check the science, the scientific studies of vaccines rarely, if ever test for preventing infections. For the most part, they test for antibody presence (which is not measured before the study) "induced" by the vaccine, and the assumption is that the presence of these antibodies will fight - not prevent - infections.
In addition, a common thread follows this sentence: "However, it should be borne in mind that preventive vaccines are usually administered to otherwise healthy subjects who are not yet fighting the infectious disease for which they are considered at risk." In simple terms, vaccines are "most effective" in the people who don't need them. Another quote "The TIV can prevent up to 90% of influenza infections in young healthy vaccinees, but is only 30–40% effective among persons aged 65 years and older."
