How very timely! I am fortunate to have been given a whole bag full of wild chaga straight from the birch forests of Mongolia, where this 'magical mushroom' has a long history as a powerful medicine. Downloaded the book by David Wolfe immediately, since I've been looking for recipes to incorporate this medicinal tea and extract. Thank you for drawing attention to this ♥️ 🙏
This is the kind of piece that makes you remember how upside-down our “healthcare” story really is. While the mind-parasite system is busy engineering new patented poisons and billing codes, the birch forests have been running a 5,000-year clinical trial on a black knot of life that quietly does everything pharma wishes it could do—without the side effects, the fine print, or the capture.
I especially appreciate how you held both realities at once: Chaga as data-dense biochemistry (beta glucans, betulinic acid, melanin, SOD, alkaline minerals)… and Chaga as a kind of cosmic librarian, archiving decades of forest intelligence into something a human can drink from a mug. That “fortress-library” analogy is perfect. We’re not just sipping tea—we’re checking out a stack of books that took 20–25 winters to write.
Also love that you foregrounded the first rule of herbalism: compliance. None of this matters if it stays as “interesting information.” Chaga only does its real work when it’s in the cup, in the gut, in the blood. Essays like this help people cross that line—from reading about healing to actually partnering with it.
As intermediaries between the spirit world and physical world, a prime concern of the Daoist priests and Shamans would have been the spiritual efficacy of the Chaga mushroom. Not much said about this, and its psychoactive effects here.
As someone who spent my entire life in nuclear power teaching about radiation and radiation protection, I'm skeptical of the "protection from radiation" claims.
Picked up a bag of dried chaga in a farmer's market in Michigan some years ago. Still adding bits of it to herbal concoctions for health benefits. It's a wonder medicine.
Yes!! Powdered Chaga is available. Just make certain it meets the specific details. Best from Siberia and with details described in the write-up. We were recommended chaga tea in January of 2020. And, we don't intend to ever stop enjoying it and it's benefits. We get ours from Purebulk.com It's the best price we found. Initially, we bought a product on Amazon, but as those of us who got the recommendation started buying the price increased rapidly.
Kngk, thanks for your kind answer,i am an 86 year/young Canadian....stage 4 NHL cancer survivor 2014..i live in Barrie 100 km north. of Toronto...i get my mushrooms...including chaga....in the forest/woods....I trust God 100%,myself.....most of the time!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! You are fortunate and blessed to have birch trees and chaga within your grasp. For the rest of us, we have to depend on other sources. It is concerning to put that much trust. That's why it's important who and where we get our information. Stay well, sir! 🤗
Woodland Essence is a good source of medicinal herbs and mushrooms including Chaga. They used to say that their Chaga was gathered locally from local birch forests. They don't state that now, but they will answer that question if you write to them.

Wow…..great article! Thank you
You come up with the most interesting subjects (that are usually far from mainstream) and present them in a clear and concise format. Thank you!

I have been warned about the high levels of oxalates in Chaga.
Truth or exaggeration?
