They cannot read or debate the issues because the Bills approach 800 pages each. And there are sixty to one hundred new bills for them to vote on every day they are in session.
During the 1992 Presidential campaign, Ross Perot called attention to this insanity with a diplomatic observation that "a general lack of accountability among elected officials and those in the bureaucracy was the one specific reason that the people in America suffered".
Mr. Perot then suggested that the best and perhaps only way to make government officials accountable was to include the citizens in the decision-making process - every hour, every day.
He went on to note that this can easily be done with computers and called the proposed mechanism

With this computer program every interested citizen can indicate whether or not they agree or disagree with every line item of every law, policy and program on the books or that was being advanced. It can be used at every level of government and in every jurisdiction.
To prevent chaos the basic law, our Constitution and Bill of Rights would be exempt from review.
Mr. Perot speculated that the Founding Fathers would probably have done the same had the technology been available. He referred to it as the Fourth Branch of government; The Citizens Branch / The Electronic Townhall.
If the government is truly of the people, by the people and for the people then what better way is there to perfect every section of the various laws and policies that do effect each and every one of us every single day?
It would not be difficult to expect at least 50 thousand qualified citizens, per congressional district, to read four pages of law or proposed law and get their Ratify or Annual input every day the congress is in session. The results could be aggregated, made known and we would all be better off.
The program would even allow a citizen to go back and change their vote as they matured. And when a super majority is reached the law/proposed law is either ratified or annulled by immediate recognition of the enforcement mechanisms.
With tens of millions of laws and tens of thousands of taxes there is plenty of work to be done.
According to Mr. Perot, this, the harnessed experience and the combined intelligence of hundreds of thousands or even millions of citizens focused like a laser light on the real issues, will, as surely as night follows the day, perfect every law in our country and eventually it will right every wrong.

I think there also should be a way that whomever writes a piece of legislation should have to show how this hypothetically would play out. The consequences of what might happen if each part of the act affect our lives.

Yes that lie was all I knew about the Irish famine. But this story makes indeed a lot more sense. I am originally from Belgium and we have mixed crops - just like Ireland has and had at the time! How can just the missing harvest of potatoes cause such a famine, that people died by the thousands? As to Leopold II, I already knew (not from school of course) that he was a harsh, brutal man, ordering people's hands chopped off if they stole some food, and of course, all colonies have been robbed like crazy - there was absolutely no good to colonization, not even the nuns that went to 'teach the children'. Read: convert them to catholicism and tell them that being poor was good for them. I think there also should be a way that whomever writes a piece of legislation should have to show how this hypothetically would play out. The consequences of what might happen if each part of the act affect our lives.

TODAY it is a well-known and easily demonstrable fact that the members of the US Congress and the State Legislatures do not read, evaluate or debate any of the particulars of the Legislation they vote on.
They cannot read or debate the issues because on average, NINE THOUSAND new bills are introduced each year at a rate of fifty-five per day and each Bill can approach 800 pages of content or more.
Since no one can evaluate FIFTY FIVE THOUSAND pages of Law Speak per day, the elected representative is forced to vote “as per the suggestion of staff”.
Our Constitutions call for ‘representative government of the people, by the people and for the people’. They do not call for ‘government by staff (permanent bureaucracy) recommendation’.
THEREFORE.................

Of course they will not read or vote on any of the laws. They are sufficiently entertained by various means which have nothing in common with the long term survival of the Human Races. The hoi polloi always come up short, but they are our hoi polloi and what we have as our workers.

Of course they are not. If they did, it might excite people like you to do something to stop it. The simple fact remains: the bills are bankrupting you personally and everyone else collectively. They will ultimately lead all of us to death's door.

Remember Dennis Kuchinich infamous statement on The Patriot Act? He said, "I read it". It should be illegal for a senator to vote on a bill he hasn't read.
It should be illegal for any government official to vote yes on a bill they have have not read.

Yes that lie was all I knew about the Irish famine. But this story makes indeed a lot more sense. I am originally from Belgium and we have mixed crops - just like Ireland has and had at the time! How can just the missing harvest of potatoes cause such a famine, that people died by the thousands? As to Leopold II, I already knew (not from school of course) that he was a harsh, brutal man, ordering people's hands chopped off if they stole some food, and of course, all colonies have been robbed like crazy - there was absolutely no good to colonization, not even the nuns that went to 'teach the children'. Read: convert them to catholicism and tell them that being poor was good for them. I still see this going on in Native countries - how holy holy is ruining the Native traditions, they will send you a dream catcher made in China if you donate- instead of teaching the kids to make dream catchers and beautiful sandals and make a living from their own culture! I would gladly pay the price for their treasures (and have done so before).

This book was published some years ago. Why is it suddenly here? One reviewer on the Amazon link provided said the book is an illegal copy. Is that true? All seems a bit dodgy to me.
