Several months before I had read anything that you or Dr. Yoho had written about root canals, I began to have sinus headaches which always started about two hours after I went to sleep. They steadily got worse and worse, and it was even beginning to affect my eyesight, so I finally went to an ENT specialist. He scoped my sinuses and didn't find anything wrong, and then he said "It’s probably that root canalled molar that's causing your problems. You won't have a toothache since the nerve is gone, but it's probably causing your sinus problems." I asked him how it could be infected since it's been drilled out and filled. He looked me in the eye and said, "They're ALWAYS infected." I had the tooth pulled and my problems were completely gone in a week. Later, I went to my dentist to have two more root canalled teeth extracted, and told her why. She wasn't interested and didn't want to hear about it.
I would like to add my experience. It was not simply getting the tooth extracted. The biological dentist I saw 1) Extracted the tooth; 2) Scraped out the periodontal ligament; 3) Flushed the site with ozone; 4) Used a Fotana laser; 5) Used platelet rich fibrin (PRF), which was extracted from my blood and spun there in the dental office, to fill the pocket; 6) Close the hole with dissolvable stitches. This process minimizes risk of dangerous anaerobic bacteria remaining at the site.
I had a kidney extracted in 2016 due to renal carcinoma. I did not know about root canal and tooth cavitation dangers until 2018, but now believe the stress on my "immune system" had overwhelmed my body's ability to heal itself.
In addition to removing three root canals and a back molar, I had four wisdom teeth sites cleaned as well. I had those wisdom teeth pulled in 1970, the gums healed but the holes left from extraction did not, and left pockets of continuously decaying tissue until 2020, when I had them cleaned out by the process above. The goal is for the jawbone tissue to grow back, and after a year, a cone beam 3D image should show that clearly. [Note: many dentists now have the Cone Beam Computed Tomography machines to take images, but unfortunately do not know how to properly read the images.]
Cardiologist Dr. Thomas Levy, MD, has written a excellent book on root canal and cavitation dangers titled, "Hidden Epidemic." https://www.tomlevymd.com/books.php
Hi Witness - In the U.S., there are two primary organizations for biological dentists. The IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) has lots of professional articles on their website about the dangers of root canals, amalgam fillings, fluoride, etc., plus they have a "Search for an IAOMT Dental Professional." https://iaomt.org/for-patients/search/?ppage=dashboard. [Note: They also have listings for dentists internationally.]
It is important to personally research these dentists, because they do not all have the same training or perform the same procedures in the same way. Look for dentists who have extra certification and who have attended multiple IAOMT annual conferences. Dentists should also be willing to answer your questions and to tell you in detail about their procedures.
That's what I did. On the first one I told her the ENT doctor recommended it. For the other two I told her I had done some research and wanted them removed. She didn't want to hear my reasoning, but she didn't argue.
"Just"? Tooth extraction causes real trauma, not a casual day out.. even with painkillers the trauma stays there and can cause issues later. No to be taken lightly..
It was supposed to be a "tongue in cheek" comment. And we're talking about 2 different things; my comment is about a root canal removed, you're talking about tooth extraction. There is no nerve anymore in a root canal, there is just a carcass (that's the whole point of it) so most likely you won't need painkillers afterwards if doneproperly. On a serious note, no, it shouldn't be taken lightly, I agree.
Best thing I've done is not use toothpaste and instead wet brush. Toothpaste is abrasive and removes the bacterial workers and minerals that help repair the surface. My teeth used to be sensitive to cold water and since quitting toothpaste it's gone away.
Sometimes I'll brush with non fluoride toothpaste but no more than twice a week.
I've had friends get more issues from getting root canal teeth removed as implants are even more stressful on the body.
This obsession of alt dentistry about not doing root canals is not helpful and causes paranoia. It also creates more customers for such dentists. 🤡 💵
Removing the tooth is not a superior option! Missing a tooth causes other issues, as it changes the bite which affects the way our brain senses the rest of the body.
I have had a root canal that flared up years later and then finally settled down. I'm sure there was crap in there and guess what, terrain explains that the body can get rid of things... Lymph massage is critical to help the mouth! Big 6 lymph massage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT_wW5pNHa4
As for removing metal fillings, if they're old it's best to not remove them as most of the mercury has already leeched out. Removal disturbs it and can cause the tooth to become damaged requiring removal as y'all talk like root canals are verboten.
Thank you! The article put me in an alarmed state and had me thinking "oh no, what the heck am I going to do now about my root canals!" Your response brought me back to earth. much appreciated... and the lymphatic system is a blessing.
Yeah, I was put into the alarmed state years ago back when I was part of a health group.
They got obsessed with removing root canaled teeth but some people got worse afterwards.
I found it to be a bit overboard unless the tooth has issues and even then we can heal those issues with lymph massage and DMSO/ Castor oil.
I've not had issues with my root canals but a tooth that had an abcess due to a improperly done white filling. Once the abcess was popped (make sure to spit and not swallow!), the tooth got much better quickly and has no issues for at least a decade.
The health nuts were telling me to get it pulled!
Later on, I learned about bite sensation and how the body uses that to determine posture and balance.
I'm glad I was hesitant and tried less extreme measures to heal it.
I am so unsure about this dmso stuff.. some say its a godsend, others say its scarily dangerous. You've found it overall benign/helpful ?
If you didnt see my comment above , I was able to fix the cavitation below my dead tooth via a meditation technique i read about. Overall I agree that you can manage a dead tooth where a hole or gap might cause just as many problems .
The meditation was specific. I had had the hole for over a decade. I had rested in that time. This was a case of specific focus. Interesting that it could work. I’ve used castor oil all my life and tried turps , but dmso sounds scarily strong lol. I was wondering about eye floaters its supposed to help with , but havnt had the nerve to try .
I am one of those who got worse after extracting a root canal. For last five years, nothing but problems, constant pain, temporal headaches and can no longer chew on that side - there was a bridge put in. My health collapsed in 2 yrs in and I had been feeling ill after each visit - it felt like maybe all the injections I was getting were causing an immune reaction, a lump would travel down my neck for couple of days after but dentist said it was prob my liver detox pathways! I wish I had not done it.
Yeah, I wonder why they charge so much more if they're not beholden to the crooked system.
It's a huge niche market that has a basis but it's fkin ridiculous when articles and books proclaim that root canals should be removed as if having a hole is any healthier.
Instead of an overpriced biological dentist, I found a dentist that did proper ventilation and other techniques to remove an old amalgam filling.
I'm still of the opinion to not remove the filings unless absolutely needed.
The more complex the procedure, the harder it is on the body, as in metal filling removal and having root canals. My one root canal went bad, the tooth broke apart, I had the tooth pulled. What was I supposed to do.
There's things worse than having teeth missing and the prime example would be implants. Yuck.
I do not believe the mercury has leeched out. Dr. David Kennedy, one of the founders of the IAOMT, produced a video, "Smoking Teeth," which shows that a 25-year-old mercury filling is still producing mercury vapor.
I agree. I had a mouthful of mercury amalgam fillings for 40+ years and they were still leaking mercury, as shown on a lab test. I finally had the last speck of mercury removed in 2025.
This was my thinking about the fillings also - I've had them for so long. I would never get a new one, and if the old ones break, I'll have them replaced with better materials, but it may not be worth it to replace them all now. I also worry about things being worse if I go through a whole process of removing my root-canalled tooth. The only reason I contemplate it is if it might be the source of some eczema patches that I have trouble with - but currently, I think leaky gut is more likely and I am trying to heal that first. Thanks for the balanced opinion. The mainstream has me so angry, that I worry about going too far in the other direction which is also not good. Trying to just listen to what MY body is telling ME, as everyone is different.
Years ago I had written a blog post linking increased calcium intake to increased morbidity and mortality. A couple of weeks later, I received an autographed book in the mail, completely unsolicited, from Dr Thomas Levy, the renowned cardiothoracic surgeon.
The name of the book was Death by Calcium, but the most interesting part, even though I was familiar with the work of Royal Lee, Weston Price, and others, was the final chapter... A chapter on dental health, and especially root canals, being a conduit for heart and other conditions.
Barbara O'Neil of YouTube fame introduced me to the "Calcium Lie" by Dr. Robert Thompson and also mentioned calcium is in cement. "Unbekoming" writes about Vitamin D which is synthetic and (if I recall correctly), says that it allows calcium in the body at the sacrifice of Magnesium.
I take Vitamin D with Magnesium, this I began doing after being diagnosed with a severe Vitamin D deficiency at which point I felt like I was on my death bed. I had at some point been diagnosed with Thyroiditis or Hashimoto's and came across a woman named Dr. Isabella Wentz who is a pharmacist who had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's in her 20's I think she said, and in her practice she began researching various alternative treatments establishing a Root Cause approach now recommending anyone diagnosed with this condition and other similar auto immune and oxidative stress type conditions to consider a Root Cause approach. I did not buy anything from her or anything I just read her articles and looked at my blood work, this matched up with oxidative stress, but by her recommendations to take it step by step, for me it was organ system by organ system as I raised my nutrient levels to the optimum amounts I began to feel better. When I found that Vitamin D and Magnesium work together that is when my tinnitus disappeared along with the chronic joint pain I had been having. To cure the Thyroid, I used Selenium and then began once I started to feel better taking a Super B supplement with 1000 mg of Vitamin C along with Iron because I was chronically deficient in Iron. This approach along with fixing my gut lining using Sauerkraut, Kimchi and Kefir taking a smoothie each day with Superfood helped eliminate all the conditions that this pharmacist detailed are common in auto immune conditions not just Hashimoto's, this worked to eliminate the oxidative stress because this was leading me to cancer in my opinion. That is how Dr. Nancy Banks also has described this process.
Of all the investment opportunities I have encountered, this subscription is the best! Thank you for your research, time and dedication to helping people.
I go to a dentist in Laguna Beach. His name is Tom Baba. He graduated from USC Dental School in the 1980s. Somewhere along the way, he had a change of mind about the way patients’ teeth should be treated. For one thing, he doesn’t take X-rays - he told me the radiation damages tooth enamel and isn’t healthy for other more serious reasons. Dr. Baba doesn’t use shots like novocaine because he believes that needles can damage nerves in the mouth. That’s even true for root canals. He did a root canal on my back molar without novocaine - it was nerve-wracking, but so was the one another dentist had done a few years earlier - with pain shots.
Dr. Baba changed his approach to dentistry, because his parents came to him to have dental work done. He knew how dangerous the radiation in dental X-rays could be, so he didn’t X-ray his parents mouths or inject pain meds. Some people call it natural dentistry.
This is such a serious matter. You say to spend the money but many don't have it. The implications of missing teeth are pretty huge for self esteem too. The extraction process is actually full of risk also and can kill neighbouring teeth and stir up a lot of stored toxins. It's such a big issue my biological dentist almost fainted when she saw my dead tooth . lol.
What I have learned is that I was able to use meditation techniques to heal the injured jaw cavity .. something I was told required expensive surgery. Removing a tooth does cause the jaw to start shrinking which is why I personally chose to leave the tooth in .
Another phenomenal piece of work, Unbekoming. I can use this to help some friends who have experienced chronic afflictions for a very long time. Dr. Price could have solved their problems easily, in my opinion. I am pretty certain that root canals were a part of their lives, and may well be the reason for their problems. Thank you.

Wow, this article is fantastic to convey the profound impact of root canals both in the negative side effects and in the recovery once individuals decide to remove the infection.
My friend has been told they need a root canal. He doesn’t understand why it’s needed as he said it doesn’t bother him now. After the root canal the tooth would get a crown. How does the dentist determine a tooth needs a root canal? Should one wait until the tooth gets infected? It’s hard to unlearn what we’ve been conditioned to believe.
This seems to be the subject of the week among the stacks I follow, although I have seen it many times before as well. I think about it a lot since I have several metal fillings and one root canal. But my current concern is what I read in these articles about titanium implants. I don't have any teeth implants, but I do have a titanium plate in my arm as the result of a car accident. Is this something that could be causing me harm? Do you know of any research or resources that I could look at for this case? Thanks!
I have lotsa’ amalgams from the 80’s, a few root canals and crowns, and wisdom teeth pulled. In fact, my sinus was punctured during the wisdom tooth pull and I’ve had sinus issues since. Not too bad, the sinus infections usually go away pretty fast. More recently pain at the most recent root canal and crown/cap (save the tooth) operation. The dentist saw me in follow up 6 months later and never gave me a direct answer as to why the pain, instead he said, “Give it more time.” It is better now.
What do I do? What’s the recommendation? Replace all 40 year old fillings and pull all root canal-ed teeth? Or must I read the book? (Peace & thx!)
Look at Rob(C137)'s replies, I think he has offered some good advice in this area. For sinuses, Barb O'Neill (YouTube) mentions using Goldenseal (herb in powder capsules) ...snorting a pinch (I'd suggest opening a capsule and pouring out a quarter to an eighth at a time).
Amazing work. Amazing information. Wish we had known this before our spouse had a root canal. We’ll be sharing on our Substack and with a dentist and retired dental hygienist we know. Thank you, Unbekoming and Dr. Gammal.
Excellent article, and sure to cause a lot of lightbulb moments in many of us.
My youngest son was born with less than half of his adult teeth. That started us on a journey to give him a full set of functional teeth, involving implants. Though seemingly healthy here in his 40's, this is unsettling information. I imagine the psychic implications of knowing this stuff is inside oneself. This is hard to share, but hard not to share. Finding functional/biologic dentists is very difficult, especially in rural areas.
OMG, this is probably the best dental health post i have ever read. restack, like your life depended upon it. Prizewinning. Just can't recommend it highly enough.

I assume this is a question for Natalie Reihl. I just went to my regular dentist and had it extracted.

Gargle / water Pik with chlorine dioxide 🌞 and DMSO is trigeminal neuralgia ‘s friend
Interesting. Perhaps the mediation helped you switch into the rest and relax healing mode.
DMSO is safe but I wouldn't ingest much of it, imho. Topically 50% is very safe just be sure to clean the area first.
DMSO, Castor oil, and turpentine are useful as solvents for different types of debris that the body tries to eliminate.
https://drsircus.com/general/natural-solvent-medicine-terpenes-dmso-water-turpentine/
DMSO primarily works on water soluble debris while castor/turpentine are for oil/fat soluble debris.
I have found turpentine to be much harsher than DMSO.
I usually do turpentine combined with castor oil.
DMSO - stick with 50% solution as higher can cause skin irritation.
I've used DMSO 50% solution added to saline eye drops for my eyes. I mixed it half and half leaving a 25% DMSO solution. One drop in each eye.
It burns a bit, especially if the eye has issues. These days my eyes are great so when I do the eye drops it barely burns at all!
May I assume the DMSO/Castor oil application was part of a topical massage in the lymph node area(s)?
Also on the jaw area near the tooth.
I also did oil pulling in the mouth with the castor oil and sometimes 50% DMSO mixed with water spitting that out also.
Doing anything involves large sums of money as biological dentists are twice as expensive, because why not....
Yeah, I wonder why they charge so much more if they're not beholden to the crooked system.

Years ago I had written a blog post linking increased calcium intake to increased morbidity and mortality. A couple of weeks later, I received an autographed book in the mail, completely unsolicited, from Dr Thomas Levy, the renowned cardiothoracic surgeon.

K2 with Vit D a must for said above concern!

Hey David
I wonder what to do when the dentist recommends a root canal. I have had 1. Not sure if I’ll get another.
Homeopathic medicine has remedies that can be used for infected teeth. Red light therapy in the mouth.

I wonder what to do as well.
