I’ve heard that before. I’m so sorry. What I’ve learned from others is despite the parents wishes and consent, nurses may still take your newborn out of your sight to give it shots, and that either mom or dad has to be super vigilant to protect their child from this reckless harm.
Yes this is what happened. Sneaky and yet completely covered by the law. They take your newborn out of your sight and it’s all very fast. I would do it all differently with hindsight. I didn’t have the knowledge I have now and also the confidence in my own body to go outside of the hospital system.

Recently it seems to have been uncertain if that vitamin K really existed and what kind of vitamin K was good and which one was bad. ONly a few years ago some authors stated that the injected one harms - it is the wrong one for the body to absorb. In case one does not know one should NOT intervene.
We live longer, but it wasn't medical interventions that made the biggest differences in life expectancy. It was sanitation, refrigeration, and indoor plumbing. And HVAC makes clean heating and cooling of homes possible, cutting indoor and outdoor air pollution by nearly 100%.
I make exceptions for a lot of surgical interventions (no one's going to heal a displaced fracture with herbs and ice), but general family medicine/pediatrics-type medical "care" is best avoided as much as possible.
AND infant mortality dropping dramatically in the 20th century. That's the biggest contributor to increased life expectancy. I read that not accounting for infant mortality, life expectancy has only increased about 7 years in the last 100 years, mostly due to what you said.

A friend of mine is a Doula. She shared with me that she leaves the umbilical cord and the placenta intact for at least an hour AND places the newborn on the mother's chest for bonding. She knows what hospitals do and thinks it's a disgrace. She also understands the iron issue as well as other nutrients transferred through the cord. Thanks for spreading the word.
This is great! My daughter was born at home 20 years ago, and my midwife offered her oral Vitamin K because I was opposed to the unnecessary physical trauma of a shot. But none of us had any idea of the mechanics by which it worked. If the maternal vitamin K stores of a breastfeeding mother are adequate, that should be enough.

Just recently last year next month a young mother I know refused the vitamin K shot. Sooo they wouldn’t circumcise her son. So they punished her by withholding the circumcision. There’s a reason it’s done ON the 8th day in the Bible. The mother through breast feeding had supplied the necessary Vitamin K to do the circumcision ON that day. Not before not after is the most beneficial to the child. God instructed to do it on the 8th day for good reasons! Now to get it done it’s more traumatic to the child and the hospital requires multiple vaccines or they won’t do it. I said leave it alone now…. Such medical corruption! As Aaron Siri says: vaccines are a religion and it starts with the Vitamin K shot the moment a child is born! Just look at what the government is doing with the Amish now.
